Before falling to the Lunar Empire, Bindle was the most prosperous of a number of states making a living from the Sweet Sea. The peoples living along the shores of the Sweet Sea were Oredanarans (a mixed race of Blue People and Wendarians) and bull worshipping Enelvi tribesmen. In Bindle, the Kereusi tribe of the Enelvi (named after their god, Kereus, the elder brother of Bisos) ruled an underclass of Oredanarans called the Ornai. Ancient pacts with the Ornai's aquatic cousins gave the Kereusi the right to sail the Sweet Sea and fish its waters. The three great cities of Bindle were then called Talst, Prin, and Banlot.
As the Carmanian Empire rose in power, political marriages and trade deals between noble families of the two countries became frequent. From 919-929 ST, the ports of Bindle were used by the Shah to launch a large expidition into Fronela. Still, Bindle retained its independence and relative freedom until 1153 ST - less than a century before the arrival of the Lunars. When Carmania fell, princes of Bindle watched as the Blood Kings War raged. Thirteen years after the last heir to the throne of Carmania drowned his children and committed suicide, Bindle launched an invasion up the Poralistor river. They claimed the land was theirs by ancient right - they had controlled the lower Poralistor long before the arrival of the Carmanians.
In this war of conquest the Bindlers used Rathori and CharUn mercenaries, not realizing that the two groups had grown increasingly hostile to one another over the previous fifty years. The CharUn soon turned on the Bindlers resulting in a short and bitter war. It ended when the CharUn sacked the northern two cities of Bindle, Talast and Prin. Desperate for allies, the Kingdom of Bindle surrendered to the Lunar Empire and was made a satrapy of the Western Reaches by Aronius Jaranthir in 1335.
During the rebuilding of Bindle, the cities were renamed: Talast to Harandash, Prin to Bindle, and Banlot to Storal. Jaranthir replaced the noble families of Bindle with loyal Carmanians. The new Satrapy of Bindle prospered under Carmanian rule and was instrumental in the refugee traffic to Fronela in the early-mid 1400s. Bindle did not suffer nearly as much as rest of the Western Reaches during that troubled century, and was poised to dominate in the aftermath of the Nomad War.
Unfortunately, circumstances changed. The Syndics Ban fell in 1499, cutting off all contact with the West. During the Ban, the Sweet Sea became treacherous and the fishing industry suffered. The economy of Bindle was shaken to its foundations, and starvation was a constant worry in the overcrowded cities. The seas calmed some fifty years ago, and the cities of the West have slowly become available to Bindler merchants. Now business is booming, supplying finished goods to the desperate post-ban cities of eastern Fronela.
The current Satrap of Bindle is the ambitious Kaufan Destrino. He was born to a lesser House and rose to the Pearl Throne of Bindle through strength and guile. His current obsession is Charg, the last region still covered by the Syndics Ban. Satrap Destrino appears convinced that sinister forces lurk beyond the vast wall of fog separating the Western Reaches from Charg. He has launched a great program of castle building, and promotes the upstart cult of Invisible Orlanth. This controversial religion is a unique form of Orlanth worship - a deity expressly forbidden by the Lunar Empire. Brostangian Archmoor, Hierophant of the Magi, has yet to declare Invisible Orlanth as blessed by Idovanus or perverted by the Lie of Ganesatarus.
