Carmanian Noble House
Community Questionnaire

The Community Questionnaire (for players)
Tabulating the Results (for narrators)

Notes:
This community questionnaire generates information, including Community Factors (Narrators Book, page 16), for a typical Carmanian noble House. The basic  Carmanian Noble House is a bloodline consisting of between 300 and 1,500 adults. These bloodlines generally exist in a complex feudal relationship with many other Houses, and this web of loyalty is called a Great House. It is not unknown for a bloodline to have feudal ties to several Great Houses, possibly in more than one Satrapy of the Western Reaches and beyond. Gernerally, though, a House is considered to be a vassal of the Great House to which its Fazzik (patriarch) has sworn.

The economic interests of even a small Carmanian House is diverse and widespread. Nearly every House conducts some business that involves both urban and rural resources - agriculture, mining, manufacture, and trade. A House usually controls ten times its number of Djomari (serfs), divided into fiefs of widely diverging economic specialty. For this reason I have not emphasized the economic specialty of the House being described. I leave that to the Narrator to decide when describing a particular Cassir (castle) or trade organization.

Religion is also too diverse to cover with any degree of completeness. Most noble Houses have some members that worship in sophisticated urban patterns, and others that follow older rural traditions. Urban nobles tend to practice pure sorcerery or venerate only the Invisible God, while the rural nobles revere deities - sometimes through veneration and sometimes with sacrifice. Most Houses also have ancestral hero cults and secret knowledge that they cultivate for use against their enemies.

The community questionnaire generates some cult affiliations, but many more are probably found within the noble House. Worship of Carmanos and the Lunar cults of Arronius Joranthir, Yanafal Tarnils, ect are widespread throughout the Western Reaches. Other deities worshipped vary by region:

Bindle: Bisos (with Esus and Kereus as subcults)
Spol: Turos (warrior and leader aspects with noble subcults of Oria for women), Natha, and Deshlotralas.
Jhor: Turos (warrior and leader aspects with noble subcults of Oria for women), Durbadath, Humakt, and Charmain
Worion: Bisos and Esus, and Charmain.

Finally:
Thanks to everyone that helped to make this possible, including (but not limited to) Nick Brooke, Peter Metcalfe, and Martin Laurie.
Thanks also to Issaries for comming up with the idea of Community Questionnaires in the first place!
